Your Perfect Smile

Dental crowns are crafted to match your smile perfectly in color, tooth shape, and bite. They’ll also look, feel and function exactly like your real teeth. In fact, your own friends and family members likely won’t be able to tell you have a crown-they’ll simply comment on how beautiful your smile is.

What Are Crowns?

Crowns, or “caps” as some call them, are custom-made covers for teeth that have had a root canal (leaving very little tooth structure), cracked or weakened teeth or teeth that are so decayed that a regular filling isn’t sufficient.

Generally, we use a porcelain material to make the crown because it blends best with your other teeth. It typically takes two appointments to fit a crown.

At the first appointment, we prepare the tooth so the crown is able to snuggly fit over it. Next, we mold an impression of the tooth so that the crown fits between the teeth on either side of it and is the same size and shape as the one being capped. At the end of this visit, we attach a temporary crown to protect the tooth until the permanent crown is ready.

At the second visit, we cement the permanent crown and make sure that it feels comfortable and natural and that your bite is correct. That’s it!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my crown last?

Your crown should last a lifetime with proper oral hygiene and routine dental examinations and cleanings.

Is getting a crown painful?

Not at all. You likely won’t feel a thing and are invited to relax or listen to music on your phone as we carry out the treatment. A general anesthetic will be used.

What is the cost of a crown?

It’s difficult to say until we see you in the practice to determine the best course of care, which is unique for each person. Once determined, we’ll present you with any financial obligation so there are never any surprises.
